Lavradores de Feitoria (LDF), a producer from the Douro whose portfolio includes the brands 'Lavradores de Feitoria', 'Gadiva', 'Três Bagos', 'Meruge' and 'Quinta da Costa das Aguaneiras', is reinforcing its commitment to the national market with the relaunch of its 'Cheda' wines. A very strong brand – launched in 2004 and on the market until 2010 – which has now been revived and modernised in partnership with Garcias, which will distribute it exclusively.
'Cheda' reflects a perfect marriage between the classic and the modern: the name and the image refer to the beginning of wine production, but with a very modern wine and to the taste of an uncomplicated consumer. A red from 2012, a red Reserva from 2011, a white from 2013 and a rosé from 2013.
'Cheda tinto 2012' is a typical Douro wine that combines three native grape varieties: Touriga Franca (50%), Tinta Roriz (35%) and Touriga Nacional (15%). It has a bright ruby red colour and, on the nose, reveals very ripe fruit, such as wild blackberries, black plums and some cassis, but also a touch of vanilla and hints of spices, given by the partial ageing in French oak barrels. The flavour is smooth, fresh and aromatic with balanced tannins. A red to accompany red meats, semi-cured and cured cheeses, red sausages and other delicacies, depending on the seasoning.
Along the same lines, with aromas of ripe red fruit typical of the Douro, but more complex and elegant, comes the 'Cheda Reserva red 2011', an almost opaque red. On the palate it is a full-bodied and velvety wine, with very ripe fruit, balanced tannins and a fine, long finish. It promises longevity and is quite versatile on the table, pairing well with cod, octopus, red meat, game, pasta with red sauce, semi-cured and cured cheeses, and red sausages.
'Cheda white 2013' is a fresh and fruity wine, with aromas of citrus and fresh fruit such as melon and pineapple. It is equally fresh on the palate, but also mineral and very fine, with balanced acidity and lively and intense fruit such as white plum and pineapple, characteristics resulting from the blend of Malvasia Fina, Síria and Gouveio. Ideal as an aperitif, but also at the table with salads, cold soups, lean fish, seafood, white meats (chicken and turkey) and pasta with white sauce.
The 'Cheda rosé 2013' is a blended wine that combines two Touriga varieties, Nacional and Franca, from the farms of LDF members located in the highest and coolest areas of the Douro demarcated region. Fermented in stainless steel at controlled temperatures, it is a fresh rosé, very fruity – with cherry and apricot aromas standing out – both in the aroma and in the mouth, where it reveals itself to be fine and elegant. It shows a very balanced acidity with lively and intense fruit. The finish is balanced, fruity and very tasty. Created to be enjoyed daily as an aperitif or to accompany fish dishes and tapas.
