Although announced a month ago, summer refuses to show itself in an obvious way. The expectation, however, remains and, it seems, the promise of sunny and warm days is coming soon. The wines that are on point are LF launches, every year and with the same name brand, with this time of year in mind. We are talking about the 2018 harvest of the 'Lavradores de Feitoria' white and rosé brothers, fresh and fruity wines, ideal to enjoy alone or with matching delicacies.
We are talking about wines that are “safe values”, showing great consistency from year to year, and that are widely distributed. The white wine is available in some distribution chains, especially the best-known hypermarkets and supermarkets; both are present in wine shops, wine cellars and restaurants from the North to the South of the country.
With a lemon straw colour, the 'Lavradores de Feitoria white' is a very fresh and fruity wine, both in its aroma and in the mouth. It presents fresh fruit, such as apricot and some pear, but also notes of tropical fruits. It is quite tasty, with good acidity and minerality, supported by flavours of ripe fruit, reminiscent of pear, but also some pineapple. This is a white blend, which is born from the union of three typical Douro grape varieties, as is the hallmark of Lavradores de Feitoria wines: Malvasia Fina, Gouveio and Síria. A white to be enjoyed on its own, as an aperitif, but which, due to its persistence in the mouth, is an excellent complement to salads, cold soups, lean fish, seafood, white meats (chicken and turkey) and pasta with white sauce. This is the 13th edition, a number that does not scare us, quite the opposite, especially because this year's harvest, 2019, promises to be of quality.
In the same range (and brand) as the white wine, Lavradores de Feitoria is also betting on rosé, which is now in its 8th edition in the blink of an eye. Because visual aspects are very important, especially in this category, the 'Lavradores de Feitoria rosé 2018' comes in light salmon tones. The aroma is fine and elegant, but with evident fruit, such as cherry and hints of apricot. The mouthfeel is fresh and balanced. The cherry stands out on the palate and is joined by plum, creating a pair of red fruit flavours, complemented by the presence of citrus fruits. In wine-loving terms, this is a dry rosé (as opposed to sweet), which is characterized by its freshness and lightness. A rosé that stands out for the presence of Touriga Franca (70%), to which are added grapes from various native varieties, planted in a field blend.
