As part of the event "Grandes Escolhas | Vinhos & Sabores 2018", the "Press Choice Wine Competition" took place.
Almost 60 judges tasted and evaluated nearly 350 wines during a long morning in mid-October. This Press Choice competition is now in its 12th edition.
The mechanics of the competition remained the same: scores from 0 to 20 (including half points) and, at the end, the three highest-scoring wines in each category went to a grand final. There, all the judges decided which of the three wines deserved to win.
Once the accounts were tallied, the winners emerged: in the sparkling wines, the Murganheira Vintage 2009 won; in the whites, the Villa Oliveira Dão Encruzado 2015; in the rosés, the Mar de Rosas Regional Lisboa 2017; in the reds, the Douro-based Duorum Old Vines Reserva 2015; and, finally, in the fortified wines, the Moscatel de Setúbal Alambre 20 years.
The panel of judges included representatives from the most specialized press (or the most specialized from other more generalist press), wine shop owners and sommeliers.
Our Meruge white 2016 was one of the white wines awarded the 'Press Choice Award 2018'. We are very proud, and we promise to continue doing more and better!
