Starting with the Bagos brand, a Riesling from the 2017 harvest, created by winemaker Paulo Ruão, in close collaboration with Raúl Pereira and Margarida Martins, responsible for production and viticulture, respectively. “In the universe of 20 estates that give life to Lavradores de Feitoria and its approximately 600 hectares, there is much to explore. When it comes to white grapes, we have the privilege of having Casa de Mateus, in Vila Real, a kind of test field, where we experiment with various white varieties, resulting in wines that reflect the compromise between the Douro terroir and the quality of the chosen varieties, when they are not native”, says Paulo Ruão. This is precisely where the grapes for this Bagos Riesling 2017 originate. Vinified only in stainless steel vats, it is a fresh, mineral and elegant white, in which white fruit and a touch of petrol stand out, so typical of the variety and more evident with evolution in the bottle.
The Bagos Riesling 2017 has a very clear and lively lemon straw colour. From the look to the taste, we are faced with a white wine with a fine and elegant aroma. At first glance, it has a fresh aroma of white-fleshed fruit and some floral notes, accompanied by a touch of petrol, very characteristic of the variety and much praised by Riesling fans. The mouth is fresh, adding minerality. It presents fruit flavours, such as pear and some pineapple, supported by good acidity, which gives it an excellent balance. Quite harmonious, it promises to evolve well. To drink as an aperitif, alone, or at the table, with cold starters, lean fish, grilled fish, seafood, Asian dishes with spicy touches and some cheeses. On the market from November, with a RRP of €18.00.
Aware of the capacity of its grapes to produce ageable whites, Lavradores de Feitoria is committed to launching new references. With other wines in the pipeline, for now, we can enjoy this Riesling from the 2017 harvest, released six years later, but always with a touch of freshness and elegance.
