'Cheda Riesling' is the absolute novelty of the Cheda range. From the 2014 harvest, it is a monovarietal white made exclusively with grapes of the variety that gives it its name. This debut is joined by new harvests of other references: 'Cheda Reserva white 2016', 'Cheda red 2016' and 'Cheda Reserva red 2015'.
An absolute first and wines that present themselves with a renewed profile: fresher and fruitier; made with grapes from high-altitude vineyards on the Lavradores de Feitoria estates. Changes that prioritize the consumer – their tastes and market trends – and that are the result of a partnership between Lavradores de Feitoria and Vinalda, a seventy-year-old distribution company that from now on takes over the sale of this wine brand. It should be noted that the wines from the 'Lavradores de Feitoria', 'Três Bagos', 'Quinta da Costa das Aguaneiras' and 'Meruge' brands are not part of this agreement, which means that they continue to be distributed by Vinicom.
Cheda: a 2004 brand renewed in 2017
The Cheda brand was launched in 2004 with a red wine and was on the market until 2010. In 2014, it was relaunched with a new image and four wines: white, rosé, red and Reserva red. In 2016, it was the turn of the launch of the 'Cheda Reserva white'. 2017 marked the renewal of the wines' profile and the arrival of a new reference, the single-varietal Riesling. The 'Cheda' brand reflects a marriage between the classic and the modern: the name and the image refer to the beginning of wine production, but with a very modern product that is to the taste of an uncomplicated consumer. These are wines that are not sold in hypermarkets and supermarkets (Moderna Distribuição), but that "feed" restaurants and wine cellars.
Whites on display with the debut of 'Cheda Riesling branco 2014'
The 'Cheda Riesling 2014' is made from grapes from a single-variety vineyard that is around 10 years old. A white wine that shows delicacy and complexity on the nose, with notes of lemon, some grapefruit and peach standing out, and a touch of petrol typical of the variety. On the palate, it is fresh and mineral, with fruit flavours such as pear and apricot, supported by good acidity, which provides excellent balance. It promises to evolve well.
The 2016 harvest of 'Cheda Reserva white' presents a new profile: it is smooth and quite complex, with a touch of vanilla, evolving into ripe white fruit, such as pear and apricot. In the mouth it is very tasty and balanced, with emphasis on fresh fruit flavors combined with hints of dried fruit, characteristics that prove the presence of the Malvasia Fina, Viosinho and Gouveia varieties. It stands out for its freshness and promises ageing potential.
The reds combine three indigenous Douro grape varieties
In the order of reds, we begin with the 'Cheda Reserva red 2015' made from Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca and Tinta Roriz grape varieties from vines over 30 years old. An opaque red, the nose is full of ripe red fruit, such as blackberries, cherries and cassis. The wood is well integrated, settling into the discreetness, a factor that gives it elegance, complexity and balance. On the palate, it is a well-structured and elegant wine, with soft tannins and balanced acidity, with notes of ripe fruit. The finish is long and persistent.
Finally, Lavradores de Feitoria presents 'Cheda red 2016'. A new harvest and a new profile marked by grape varieties from vines aged between 25 and 30 years: Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca and Tinta Roriz. The tasting notes highlight the intense, bright red color, as well as the elegance, ripe fruit, such as cherries and plums, and the freshness. These characteristics are complemented in the flavor by soft tannins and excellent acidity, resulting in a very balanced wine.
